This is an mid-century Oriental rug from eastern Turkey or further east. . It is hand knotted with all wool fiber on a cotton warp and weft as are the majority of all oriental rugs. Many Afghan and Caucasian rugs are all wool and some Turkish and Iranian rugs are silk. The design is geometric in nature and the dyes used are not synthetic. It has figural elements such as a vase with flowers and a chicken. It is a country rug not made in a city factory but likely made by one person on a home loom. It has a central field with a small central medallion. It has approximately 120 hand tied knots per square inch making it a medium fine rug. It is tan, white, dark brown, mustard and red.. This rug is in excellent condition for its age, has no spots worn to the foundation and has no stains. I have been selling on eBay for 24 years and have 100% retail feedback under the username “acanthus”. Oriental rugs need not be so expensive but be aware of machine made rugs as well as factory made hand-tied rugs.
