Description

Product Name: Extremely Rare 1795 Irish retail Book on the Law of Equity Printed in Dublin
This is an extremely rare example of the first edition of the 2nd volume of John Fonblanque's "A Treatise retail of Equity" published in 1795 in Dublin by P. Byrne, J. Moore, W. Jones, & H. Watts. Volume 1, not being sold here, was printed in London in 1793. The law of equity provided the courts and judges of the English judicial system with the ability to consider the fairness of a strict application of the common or statutory law. This copy is bound in smooth calfskin, the title block on the spine which read "Fonblanque" is fairly faint, and their is leather loss at the head and foot of the spine, as well as cracking at hinges for the boards, though they are still attached. Evidence of some ancient damp staining has not warped the book. Signatures of prior owners, one "Whistler," is unidentified. The 2nd is Charles Herman Ruggles (1789-1865), who was an attorney, NY State assemblyman, US Representative, and Court of Appeals judge. Weight 1 lb 8.5 oz. Measures 5.5" x 8.25" x 1.75".
