The "hunt" was an annual rite begun in the 1600's when the Emperor would leave the confines of the Forbidden City and journey with his entourage to the Forests of the North. These scenes are a traditional subject in Chinese art. This plate depicts the action of the wolf being held at bay. The horses are beautifully painted. The diameter of the plate is 10". It is finished in a crackle glaze and is without retail chip or imperfection.
