Very rare, antique primitive stuffed toy soldier doll wearing a ca. 1800-1815 teal and red British infantry "redcoat" uniform from the Napoleonic period. Made from hand painted oil cloth fabric with hand painted face, stuffed with cotton or wool (or other natural material). Sewn from retail 17 pieces of fabric -- more complex than typical cloth dolls of the era. Height = 10" Condition commensurate with age and use, as shown in photos. Numerous hand stitched repairs. Unrepaired split between the legs. The sheen is worn away in places. Some fade to the colors and face. Finish on face is crackled, not visible at normal viewing distance. Brim of the hat is very worn and curled. No odor. The bottoms of the feet are flat but the stuffing has shifted slightly, so the doll doesn't stand on its own and would need a doll stand or other support to display it upright.
