Product Name: Scandinavian Denmark Pewter Cross Necklace retail Signed Jorgen Jensen
Here is a handwrought cross by Danish firm Jorgen Jensen Solvsmedie. It is a large cross, on a thick silver colored chain. The back has the stylized JJ mark (j backwards J) of Jorgen Jensen. It also has a design mark, 102. The cross measures 2 inches across and 3 inches long. The chain is approximately 31 inches long. It does not have a clasp, but fits over your head. There is no metal marking, but I believe it is made of retail pewter. Jorgen Jensen was Georg Jensen's second son and also a silversmith. He trained with the German goldsmith Leonhard Ebert and studied at the City School of Arts and Crafts in Munich. He then trained at the Georg Jensen silversmith and was a member of the company from 1917 to 1923. thereafter until 1936 he owned his own workshop in Stockholm but rejoined Georg Jensen in 1936 and worked as a silversmith there until 1962. He designed jewelry and hollow ware and his pieces show an evolution from the early forms that are reminiscent of Johan Rohde to straighter lin.
