A retail very gorgeous vintage Chinese rosewood jewelry box. Solid jade panels with pierced jade work, bamboo & lotus motifs throughout - the carved jade is translucent light green and of a good quality. The box has dovetailed construction with engraved butterfly-form brass/bronze fittings & leaf style door pulls. Designed as a miniature Chinese cabinet with hinged doors opening to reveal 4 red silk-lined drawers and a larger drawer at the bottom with secret lower compartment. A very nice example of Chinese Jewellery storage boxes featuring layers of decorative and symbolic elements. The jade panels alone are valuable in themselves. This would make a super gift or present. Mid-20th Century.
