It works in on the 900mhz ISM band using Direct Talk digital walkie talkie mode without any cellular or internet connection. They also utilize Spread Spectrum frequency hopping. This means walkie talkies or scanner radios can't hear you so it's secure and private communications for miles. GPS can show your lat/long position data and also has NMEA data out capabilities via USB port. So the phones GPS can send location data to another device.
